TillGuard is a UK till loss-prevention service. This page explains, in plain English, what personal data we handle — both when you visit this website and when we deliver the service to a business.

This website

This site has no accounts and no forms. To understand how many people visit, we use GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service. It sets no cookies, collects only aggregate statistics (pages viewed, referring site, browser type, country), and cannot identify you or follow you to other websites.

Beyond that, we set no cookies and run no tracking until you allow it: on your first visit to the main site a banner asks whether we may use advertising cookies, and nothing loads unless you click Accept. If you decline, no advertising tracking ever loads.

If you accept, we use the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Pixel to measure how well our ads perform and to show TillGuard ads to people who have visited this site. This shares limited information about your visit with Meta — see the Meta Privacy Policy. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

We may also use Meta's advertising tools to show our ads to businesses whose public contact details we hold (see "If we've contacted you" below).

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, which (like any web host) may record standard server logs such as IP addresses for security purposes. See the GitHub privacy statement.

If you contact us

You can reach us by WhatsApp, phone or email. If you get in touch, we receive what you send us — typically your name, contact details and message — and we use it only to respond and to arrange the service you asked about. WhatsApp itself is provided by Meta and has its own privacy policy. We don't share your details with anyone.

If we've contacted you

We sometimes contact directors and owners of food businesses to introduce TillGuard, using business contact details from public sources such as Companies House, your business's own website, or public business listings. We do this under UK GDPR's legitimate interests basis. We hold only your name, role and business contact details, we use them for nothing except that introduction, and we delete them on request — or after 12 months if you haven't responded. Every message we send tells you how to opt out: one reply is enough, and you won't hear from us again. You can object at any time using the contact details below.

The TillGuard service

For businesses using TillGuard, we review short windows of till-area CCTV and till records to flag irregular events. How that works with data protection law:

Your business stays the data controller. The footage and till records are yours; we act as a data processor on your written instructions.
A written data agreement covering exactly what we access, why, and for how long is part of every setup.
We take only what the review needs — short clips of the till area linked to specific till events, never a live feed of your premises.
Clips are seen only by our review team and are never uploaded to a third-party cloud for storage or processing. Retrieved footage is deleted once reviewed; the flagged clips we send to the business are kept in its secure evidence area for 90 days, or until the business deletes them, and everything is deleted when the business leaves.
Staff must be told. Linking footage to till events is workplace monitoring, so under ICO guidance staff must be properly informed and the monitoring must be necessary and proportionate. Every setup includes a DPIA template, staff monitoring-notice wording and a written data-processing agreement; the employer, as data controller, remains responsible for its lawful basis — and we help get that right.

TillGuard flags moments worth a look; it never accuses anyone. Decisions about what a flagged event means — and any action taken — always remain with the business owner.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, correct it, or ask for it to be deleted. If you believe we hold data about you — as a site visitor, a customer, or a member of staff at a business using TillGuard — contact us and we'll respond promptly. Staff requests about workplace CCTV are normally handled by your employer (the data controller), and we assist them.
